If you are in Australia and have a horse you are worried about, whether it be a valuable racehorse or pacer, a competition horse in any other dicipline or just a valued companion. If this horse has not recovered properly from illness or surgery, if it is breaking down structurally or has other health or nervous system problems, I can help you.
Holistic Equine Rehabilitation TM - with a Registered Trainer
I am now offering, and personally supervising, holistic rehabilitation programs for gallopers and pacers in Bathurst, Cowra and the ACT.

At present we are working with four respected trainers: Leanne Aspros, thoroughbred trainer, Bathurst; Miffy Rae, thoroughbred trainer, Queanbean; Pam Webber, thoroughbred trainer, Rosehill and Anne O'Connor, pacing trainer, Cowra.
Holistic Equine Rehabilitation TM - at Kellosheil Park
At our own property in Bathurst, NSW I am personally supervising spelling and rehabilitation for all medical conditons as well as offering agistment for mares in foal and for growing out young stock.
Our team consists of my partner Cath Cox, an experienced dressage trainer and Reiki therapist, myself Robert McDowell, Australia's most experienced equine herbalist and John Taylor, Horseman.

Health Problems:
After 10 years of working with owners and trainers within all equine disciplines, I have developed and proven a range of natural treatment approaches for most conditions facing competition horses.
In the racing industry the most common health problems fall into three categories.
- Structural problems affecting bones or ligaments causing the horse to go lame, or to break down, during preparation or under full competition workloads.
- Metabolic problems affecting the systems of the body resulting in the horse not being able to maintain race fitness and condition.
- Nervous system problems arising from the breeding or as a result of handling or trauma, which is preventing the horse from performing at peak.
I have developed and proven dozens of herbal medicines to interrupt and reverse these conditions. This allows me often, to turn horses around avoiding more and more dramatic and expensive treatments and maybe, the ultimate 'sacking' of the horse.
Simply putting something in the horses mouth without understanding the reasons behind the process of illness and treating these underlying cause factors as well, is less than half the story.
To fully rehabilitate your thoroughbred you need an integrated program of diet, herbal treatments, specific training and the controlled buildup of workloads under close supervision.
You need to be kept totally informed of the exact nature of the program and the progress and not just kept in the dark and asked to pay for, ever more expensive and heroic medical and/or surgical intervention, with no coordinated supervision.
Cost structure of the Trainer based - Holistic Rehabilitation Program: (All charges attract GST at 10%)
I provide the following services, for horses stabled with any of our trainers, for $120.00 per week.
- An initial written report summarizing the particulars of the case based on the history and medical reports provided. This report outlines my observations and prescribes and costs the specific recommendations for treatment.
- An initial program for rehabilitation training and the introduction of race training is presented along with my expectations as to the rate of progress toward full fitness.
- I make myself available for telephone or email consultation throughout the process to you the owners, your veterinary consultants and to your trainer, at no extra charge, throughout the whole rehabilitation and retraining period.
- I maintain regular telephone contact with your trainer and I personally visit your horse at regular intervals to observe first hand all aspects of treatment and training, to discuss details of your horses progress and to revise the treatment and training programs as required.
- I provide a detailed written report after the first two weeks of Rehabilitation and thereafter, monthly reports.
- I make recommendations for ongoing preventative treatment and training when your horse returns to racing and am available to comment and advise on any health problems which arise after the return to work.
The rate for personally supervising treatment programs for horses agisted with us at Kellosheil Park is $35.00 per day which includes full livery. Herbal treatments are additional at cost and agreed training and excercising, including any in-hand or ridden work, is $35.00/hr.
- An assessment by our consulting Veterinary Surgeon, Dr Angus McKibbin BVSc, after a joint review between ourselves based on the history and medical reports provided. (Dr McKibbin bills you directly for his visit)
- An initial written report summarizing the particulars of the case. This report outlines my observations and prescribes and costs the specific recommendations for treatment.
- An initial program for rehabilitation training and excercises if required along with my expectations as to the rate of progress toward full fitness.
- I make myself available for telephone or email consultation throughout the process to you the owners, your veterinary consultants and to your trainer, at no extra charge, throughout the whole rehabilitation and retraining period.
- I provide a detailed written report after the first two weeks of Rehabilitation and thereafter, monthly reports.
- I make recommendations for ongoing preventative treatment and training when your horse returns to you or goes from Kellosheil Park back to your racing stables.
The treatments prescribed for your horse will mainly be chosen from amongst those standard programs shown on my website and are charged at the rates provided there. Click here to view.
Where modifications beneficial to your specific horse are called for I simply add or subtract ingredients from my formulations as I make them up or I start from scratch and make up individual prescriptions.
- For a straightforward structural problems, such as a ligament or bone rehabilitation program over 12 to 16 weeks, will cost under $35.00 per week in total.
- My most expensive treatment programs covering multiple problems or for example perhaps a complete metabolic breakdown following severe Trauma, Poisoning, Infection or Post Operative complications, could cost a maximum of $100-120.00 per week but is still a tiny fraction of what you are used to spending in such circumstances.
Each trainer will provide her own schedule of fees and estimations of the additional training and handling requirements of your Holistic Equine Rehabilitation program.
