Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

Flowers and the Soul There is something very healing about flowers which explains the world wide enjoyment of growing flowers in a garden. What does a garden represent to you? A safe enclosure, a place of serenity and calm, a place for the growth of living forces? Those who enjoy gardening will know a quiet joy that is hard to describe, a release from trials and tensions of everyday work . Maybe in a garden we are given a glimpse of paradise.

Flowers themselves bring healing in indefineable ways, they are imbued with symbolic and religious meanings that unites us with all humanity. In fact each flower contains all the elements of nature - ether air, water, fire and earth, as well, flowers have form, texture, colour, fragrance and still something more- unexplainable.

As Lord Alfred Tennyson wrote:
"Little flower - but if I could understand
What you are, root and all, and all in all,
I should know what God is and man is"

Next weekend give yourself the pleasure of gardening, tending the flower beds or vegetables, say hello to the buds of spring if you live in the southern hemisphere, if not then find some time for inner contemplation in visiting the autumn colours and feelings of your garden.

This week we feature:-

Canine - Rescue Remedy

Recently we have been asked for ideas for a vitamin supplement for our canine friends. We have no definitive vitamin supplement as such, however as many of our regular readers will know already the basis for all canine health is feeding a natural raw diet. I have attached relevant articles for those interested.

To ensure adequate amounts of trace elements you can add small amounts of granulated Kelp, a teaspoon mixed with raw meat a couple of times each week.
We do however have an excellent anti-oxidant if you are concerned about keeping your dogs at their optimum health. This is Maritime Pine Bark Extract, it is excellent both for yourself and your dogs and will support the immune system and is very good for circulation also. Robert takes it all the time.

If you have any dogs who are not ill as such but do not look as good as you would expect or you are rescuing dogs who are malnourished then the Conditioning tonic is excellent for rebalancing the whole metabolism.

Equine - The Old Campaigner

I make up a variety of different treatments for so called Arthritis ( usually just a term, loosely used for some pain, which is possibly associated with structural changes which can be identified on X-rays or Scans). Sometimes of course, the problem is more a rheumatic sort of situation, where it is the chemistry of the fluid lubricating joints which is the problem.

Scarring appearing as calcification in the bones from cracks, bruises and heavy falls will restrict normal bone elasticity, range and smoothness of action between adjacent structures. If treated with herbs like Comfrey and Equisetum internally and Arnica externally as your horse proceeds through his career, scarring may be minimized absolutely. Even years after, progressive thickening of such bone scars can be halted and reversed using similar herbal treatments. If your old campaigner is going to go on for another 10years with full range of mobility and minimum pain it is probably worth putting together a program to be followed for 6 months or so to reverse the processes. Simple feed changes thereafter should be able to continue the work.

If you are interested I can provide the required herbs in liquid extract form which you can add to feed grains . If you are at the point where you are really considering Bute for pain management I can provide herbal alternatives which will not open up the problems which so often result from overuse of medical anti-inflammatories.

The particular treatments I am referring to can be found on the following links on my site.

Tendon and Bone Healing:

The ground millet and linseed can be procured locally.

Arthritis and Rheumatism for general comfort levels and to assist in the healing

Anti-Inflammatory Healer: If you can't really wait for the two treatments to take hold and need something to replace Bute in the meantime.

Hoof Oil which is very useful for massaging into stiffening structures like the sacro-ileac joint:

Human - Leg Ulcers

The three factors which could contribute to this condition are as follows:
  1. The circulation to the legs and feet could be compromised (blood pressure problems, smoking, varicose veins or whatever)

  2. The blood could be in need of purification and the sores could represent the bodies attempts to remove toxins from the blood in the event that elimination through the kidneys or liver is inefficient for some reason.

  3. An antibiotic resistant infection has inhabited the sores and is now resistant to all orthodox drugs.
Rather than attempt to quantify the relative contribution of the factors above it is much more effective just to provide herbal tonics which will deal with all three situations on the grounds that circulation and blood quality improvements will improve healing and health in the area of the sores in any case.

Therefore I recommend two herbal tonics as follows:
http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_circulation_extremities.html
http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_blood_poisoning.html

The antibiotic resistant infection treatment program consists of a treatment which overlaps to some extent with the herbs contained in the other mixes above so I would therefore recommend only applying a little Colloidal Silver and a few drops of Thuja directly to the ulcers each day twice and taking 10 ml of the Silver plus 5 drops of Thuja internally twice each day also.

The full progam is shown on the link:
http://www.herbal-treatment.net/herbs_golden_staph.html
and the rationale is explained here but the Silver which you should be able to obtain locally and the Thuja should be all you need.

The sores should be left uncovered for a good part of each day to allow them to dry out a little.

Changes should be noticed early on, the ulcers could seem to get a little worse in the first instance but should be definitely showing clear signs of clearing within the first 4 weeks.

The colloidal silver may be stopped when the sores clear up.
The blood cleansing program should be continued for at least 12 weeks to complete the course.
The circulation tonic should be continued for the long term if circulation problems have been experienced for many years.

Topic: Sarcoid Treatment

Comments:
" I want to let you know that the sarcoid mix has been very effective for treating a sarcoid on my mare's face. It never really healed after treatment with Xterra and became sore and started to spread again.
The area was very raw, but with the herbal treatment it has receded to barely noticeable. My mare has regrown her hair around where the sarcoid used to be. This was a large and noticeable site next to her eye; about 2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide and marred her good looks as well as was a concern for treatment so near her eye.

Thank you, I know that the rx for sarcoids is "unproven" but I would sure recommend it before resorting to xterra, surgery, or other common interventions. Previously I tried numerous topicals such as traditional vet prescription remedies as well as lavender oil and tea tree oil none of which worked.

I am going to be applying more on the remaining small "wart" which is all that is left of the 2x3/4 inch sarcoid. Her hair is regrowing and instead of looking like a scar - which everyone noticed and asked about, now it is barely visable. Thank you."
