Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 29 April 2005 Herbal Help for Humans and their CompanionsProtecting Teeneagers from Themselves and the EnvironmentThe only things you need to be concerned about really is to protect them from themselves and their environment as much as you can. By this I mean: 1. Decent food to eat and to drink. A flavoured drink made from cold Rosehips Tea with a dash of Ribena made up and a constant supply left in the refrigerator is great and compensates for almost any dietary lack. 2. Opportunities for recreation. Nothing is gained by trying to cut back on a reasonable amount of time spent each week on fun things and with their mates. Social skills are important. 3. Any sport or interest which involves their body and or their brain is to be supported. Self respect and achievement is important. 4. Opportunities to earn their own money and take responsibility for their own decisions. Self management is important. All of the above skills come ahead of formal study really and time should not be skewed totally toward short term study goals. Let them sleep in on weekends if they want, they will grow out of that without your help. This week we feature:-
Canine - Dental Decay in Dogs Teeth- A Growing Problem With the increased consumption of processed foods and the decreased use of raw bones for dogs a rise in dental problems has occurred. Infections, stinking breath, teeth decay, receeding gums and teeth covered in tartar just like in humans who consume all sorts of rubbish. Our canine pets rely on us to feed them and they don't have the use of language to say no to the convenient processed dog food that so many people make use of these days and all the chemicals that it includes. Indeed the rise of commercial dog foods has spawned a whole new industry of veterinary dentists. Read more about this worrying trend in Ian Billinghurst's book "Give Your Dog a Bone". http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_natural_feeding_rearing.html Equine - Travel Preparations I would recommend the following: 1. Start your horses on the Travel Mix 3 or 4 days before they are loaded and supply the Truckie with a bottle to be added to all drinking water. Presumably he carries his own drinking water supplies and the instruction could be to add directly into his tank. 2. Take a second bottle with you so that when you meet the horses you can administer a dose directly each time you meet up with them. This is given directly and it already contains Rescue Remedy and you wont need to use extra RR although it is always good to have on hand anyway. 3. Take a bottle of Travel Trauma with you so you have something in hand if one of them does go down for any reason. Mix Chamomile Flowers and Rosehips Granules in with the calf as you planned in with the chaff. The granules will settle to the bottom and are a little slowly digested without the added water but they will still be good. If the truckie is able to dampen down the feed with a little extra water then the rosehips will be softened and the extra water improves hydration anyway. These instructions should be simple enough for the truckie and if he is not happy to add the travel mix into the drinking water insist that he adds it into the water he uses to dampen feed. Human - Adhesions Adhesions are common after abdominal surgery and I do have a treatment program which I use to help soften and to begin to reabsorb all this connective tissue which has attempted to protect you from further intrusions. This program consists of an internal program of concentrated herbal extract drops taken as a supplement over the long term and is described on the link: http://www.altivoe.com/herbs_abdominal_adhesions_protective.html Depending on how severe the situation is, it may take a while to completely reduce the pain you are experiencing but you should notice some improvements within the first month. If this is the case you will know that the work of softening and reabsorbing has begun and that it will continue. The process will have been reversed and you will not need to face the prospect of further and further problems which could result if the advance of this scarring is never turned around. In due course I should like to be able to help you also with whatever problems required such a number of surgical intervention but it would be best to start off with the adhesion softening mix first up. Home Remedies - Autumn Time in the Southern Hemisphere
Traditionally this is time of harvest, our energy moves down and inwards to prepare for winter. We need to focus on nurturing , supporting and building our organs for the cold change ahead.
The autumn winds will effect our lungs and so of course our breathing , you will find that you cough a little more as breathing is more difficult. Traditional chinese medicine (TCM) believes that wind is often the cause of diseases, and all parents know that wind sends children “mad” .But wind can also clear blockages that cause emotional out bursts. Healthy lungs on an emotional level actually assist us to maintain purpose and keep arrangements and commitments. In TCM the colon is the partner of the lungs and logically is responsible for letting go and holding on in different situations in life. You can see hopefully how connected body mind and spirit really are. You will feel better if you let things go at this time of year such as unpacking boxes or getting rid of unwanted clothes etc. Cook at lower temperatures for longer using water to stew, steam and boil foods and make soups rather than stir fry or have cold foods at this time. Foods that raise your immune levels include oranges, pears , peaches, soy products, green beans and shitake mushrooms. This time of year can create an extra dryness with our skin and mucus membranes causing wrinkles, itchiness and constipation and dry lips .Think of Aloe as a moisturizer for hot and fiery people its excellent for sensitive and allergic skin conditions or excess heat and inflammation. Moisturizing foods are now important as they will protect your skin and lungs which are related, apples pears and almonds, pine nuts as are barley millet and sesame seeds. Chicken broth, sweet potato and eggs protect your skin from the wind and dryness. This is time to study and plan and keep warm. It is important to address any unresolved grief or sadness as it can manifest as bronchitis and disturbances of the colon.
