Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

Benefits of meditation:
  • Direct experience of your calm, unbounded Inner Spirit.
  • Connecting with your Inner Spirit taps a wellspring of spiritual energy. This energy nourishes & enhances all levels of life... physical, emotional, mental & spiritual.
  • When connected with your Inner Spirit, life flows more effortlessly, & you begin to perceive the world as a more supportive, enjoyable place.
  • Regular contact with your Inner Spirit catalyzes a gradual shift to a higher level of consciousness... centered in the peace, joy, & freedom of your Spirit.
  • Relaxation and stress reduction.
  • Increased flow of fuel to the brain.
  • Gradual opening of the 6th chakra - the Inner Eye - giving clear insight & inner vision.
Centering is meditation in action... staying in the Light. Centering means remaining in your calm inner center amidst the clamor of everyday life. Being centered means not allowing your Inner Light to be overshadowed by stressful circumstances or negative thoughts and emotions. When you are centered you are in a state of clarity, peace, and balance. When you are not centered, you are unclear, stressed, off balance.

A good centering technique will require only minimal attention, allowing you to keep the majority of your attention on the activity at hand. Here are some very easy, very effective centering techniques.
    1. Breath Awareness #1
While involved in whatever you are doing, bring some attention to your breathing... not your full attention... just enough to bring you back to your calm center. Breathe a little more slowly and deeply.

    2. Breath Awareness #2
When feeling stressed, take several slow, deep breaths. With each in-breath, imagine you are pulling all of your scattered energy and attention back to your Self... your calm inner center. As you exhale, let go of all stress and negativity.

    3. Inner Sun
Visualize a bright sun filling your heart chakra... the quiet, subtle energy field that permeates your chest area. Imagine the rest of your energy field as clear blue sky. When stressed thoughts or emotions arise, view them as clouds floating in that sky.

This week we feature:-

Canine - Lipoma, Fatty Benign Tumours

The Fatty Tumour mix is not on the web yet . Is to be used in conjunction with Maritime Pine Bark .
http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/maritime_pine_bark_extract_pycnogenol.html

Both are concentrated herbal extracts and are given by counting out the recommended dose in drops directly into feed to be mixed or into an amount of water to be given by mouth.

I also recommend dietary changes as follows.

I recommend that you place your dog on a diet of raw meat & bones i.e. beef/mutton bones with meat on them or raw chicken necks and wings, mince, definitely no processed food and snacks. You can also add some freshly cooked vegetables and rice as well.

If your dog is not already on this type of diet, then I suggest that you introduce it slowly.

Have a read of the following articles regarding dogs diets and why it is important to keep it natural and simple:

Equine - Retained Afterbirth

There are no herbs to expel retained afterbirth in mares.

I do however have a brood mare mix which tones the uterus prepares for foaling see link:
http://www.herbal-horsekeeping.com/horse_brood_mare_fertility.html

Ideally you would begin this treatment pre-pregnancy through to post-pregnancy.

This blend of herbs is designed to improve or restore fertility and normalize the mare's heat cycle, to protect and develop the foetus, and to tone up the uterus for ease of foaling.

The overall aim of this treatment is to help the mare produce a strong healthy foal with no problems each time, while prolonging and facilitating her breeding career by maintaining her own reproductive and general health and condition.

Alternatively you can make up a raspberry leaf tea by boiling a cupful of raspberry leaves in a jug of water, cool off divide into 3 portions & use as a drench 3x daily.

This will condition & tone the uterus

Human - Cholesterol

Cholesterol testing and drugs for reducing readings have formed the basis of a whole medical and pharmaceutical industry.

I have a liver tonic which should be part of any cholesterol management plan:
See: http://www.altivoe.com/herbs_cholesterol.html

In addition you should seek out sources of Choline which is a bitter taste found in many of the older style salad vegetables like Water Cress, Dandelion Leaves and Rocket. If ones diet is otherwise good it is normally the lack of Choline to balance out the Cholesterol which is the problem.

If you are exercising and of a healthy weight, if you are eating healthily and have a healthy liver and choline in you diet there is no reason at all to suppose that the readings you get on your personal cholesterol levels are anything but healthy for your own metabolism.

Home Remedies - Sweet Violets

Violets Viola odorata, Ordinary violet, Common blue violet, Sweet violet, Garden violet
The symbol of ancient Athens, the violet was believed to moderate anger, strengthen and comfort the heart, and promote refreshing sleep. Garlands of its blossoms worn around the heads of revelers were supposed to dispel wine fumes and prevent dizziness and headaches (chemical analysis of the plant reveals the presence of salicylic acid—the "raw material" for aspirin—and thus shows that the Greeks may have known whereof they spoke). The leaves, which have antiseptic properties, can be used in ointments or as poultices for bruises and, when made into a tea or syrup, have been taken for internal inflammations and coughs.

There are even reports of violet-leaf infusions having helped to allay the pain of throat disorders, To make an infusion, pour 1 pint of boiling water over 2-1/2 ounces of fresh, clean leaves and allow the brew to steep overnight. Strain the liquid, which may then be drunk cold by the wineglassful every 2 hours. To be effective, the infusion should be made fresh daily.

Tea made from the entire plant is used to treat digestive disorders and new research has detected the presence of a glycoside of salicylic acid (natural aspirin) which substantiates its use for centuries as a medicinal remedy for headache, body pains and as a sedative. Used externally the fresh crushed leaves reduce swelling and soothe irritations. As a bath additive the fresh crushed flowers are soothing to the skin and the aroma is very relaxing.
