Robert McDowell's Herbal Treatments 31 October 2006 Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions"Cancer is a disease of attitude. Those who attempt to suppress anger create blockages that fester and grow malignantly. Anger arises due to a person's perception that their freedom has been denied, as when a wild animal loses it's spirit as a result of being caged." S.W.R.This week we feature:-
Feline - Acne The clinical symptoms of the disease are multisystemic i.e. it's a condition that affects many organ systems of the body and relates to increased metabolic rate. Owners often overlook early symptoms or assume the changes are a normal part of the aging process. Obvious weight loss is usually the problem that takes the cat to their veterinarian. Other signs include rapid heart rate, muscle weakness, goitre, irregular heart rhythm, hyperexcitability *increased appetite , increased thirst , increased urination , heat intolerance , increased frequency of bowel movements, vomiting, and an unkempt hair coat. My recommendations are to start your cat on our Thyroid balancing mix/ overactive special. Amend the diet so that the cat is receiving small meals only & mix into 1 meal, 1 teaspoon of slippery elm powder with a small amount of yoghurt. If she won't take this just mix the powder into some chicken mince. The slippery elm will treat any inflammation or irritation of the gastro tract & slow down the vomiting. You can purchase this at the Health food store. Continue the slippery elm powder until the vomiting stops. Don't be tempted to use more than 1 teaspoon as it may cause constipation. I also recommend that you place your cat on a diet of raw meat, chicken meat or raw chicken necks and wings, mince, definitely NO PROCESSED food and snacks. You can also add some freshly cooked vegetables and rice as well. Add a little rosehip tea to the drinking water not too much to start so that the taste is quite diluted. This will support the Kidney function. Canine - Allergic Rhinitis Yes dogs cab get a form of hay fever like their human masters! We a have a herbal allergic rhinitis mixture that works by reducing over-reactivity while healing the inflamed mucus linings that perpetuate the condition. Antibiotics are completely irrelevant as they try to kill infective agents and no infection is involved in allergic rhinitis, except as a secondary infection when the mucous linings of the sinuses become so broken down that they host infection. If your dog is on antibiotics and the symptoms gets worse whenever you stop them, it demonstrates that the secondary infections are now firmly entrenched and largely resistant to the drugs. I prescribe the allergic rhinitis tonic to be found on the link: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/dog_allergic_rhinitis.html 100ml will last you 12 weeks. You may need two bottles to provide enough time to completely heal the problem, but you will certainly notice improvements in the first 3 weeks. If the secondary infection is now deeply entrenched as above, you may also need to give a course of Colloidal Silver and Thuja to clear the resistant bugs as well. You might also like to look at the possibility that the skin problems are a result of the reactive history and drugs and read the information on the link: http://www.herbal-dogkeeping.com/newsletter_29112002_distressing_skin_allergy.html I also recommend that you place your dog on a diet of raw meat and bones i.e. beef/mutton bones with meat on them, or raw chicken necks and wings, mince, definitely no processed food and snacks. You can also add some freshly cooked vegetables and rice as well. If your dog is not already on this type of diet, then I suggest that you introduce it slowly. Equine - Colic Emergency This usually means that the horse's whole digestive system has been traumatised such that it goes into spasms. Start with this program immediately (you can get all you need from the health food store) and report back after one week. Prepare each dose by putting 6 chamomile tea bags with 3 rosehip tea bags in a litre of boiling water. Allow to cool with the tea bags in it. Then add a couple of drops of Rescue Remedy and give a quarter of it every couple of hours, maybe first as a drench and later mixed with feed. First we must deal with the emergency situation. Human - Restless Leg Syndrome In most cases, the cause of RLS is unknown. In other cases, RLS appears to be related to the following factors or conditions, although researchers do not yet know if these factors actually cause RLS. People with low iron levels or anaemia may be prone to developing RLS. Once iron levels or anaemia is corrected, patients may see a reduction in symptoms. Chronic diseases such as kidney failure, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and peripheral neuropathy are associated with RLS. Treating the underlying condition often provides relief from RLS symptoms. Some pregnant women experience RLS, especially in their last trimester. For most of these women, symptoms usually disappear within 4 weeks after delivery. Certain medications-such as anti-nausea drugs, anti-seizure drugs, anti-psychotic drugs, and some cold and allergy medications-may aggravate symptoms. Patients can talk with their physicians about the possibility of changing medications. Check any medications you are on for side effects? Researchers also have found that caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco may aggravate or trigger symptoms in patients who are predisposed to develop RLS. If you are able to, start to reduce any caffeinated drinks & substitute with Chamomile tea & Rosehips tea. Some studies have shown that a reduction or complete elimination of such substances may relieve symptoms. I also recommend the Restless Legs support mix link attached: http://www.altivoe.com/herbs_restless_legs_cramps.html Home Remedies - Skin Tags Skin tags are small, soft, flesh coloured growths of excess tissue that hang from the skin. They usually occur in clusters on the armpits, eyelids, groin, neck and other body folds, Skin tags stay the same size and colour. Skin tags are almost always benign. Skin tags are predisposed by heredity i.e., if a person's parents have skin tags, there is a high likelihood that the children will also have them. Women are more likely to have skin tags then men. Generally, they appear during middle age. However, newborns will occasionally have skin tags. If they are brown or change size or colour, I would suggest seeing a dermatologist to determine they are not something else. If they are indeed skin tags, there are several things you can do. 1. Aloe Vera, Bloodroot, Black walnut extract, and Comfrey can be applied to the skin tags and covered with a bandage to prevent irritation from clothing until they fall off. 2. 1000-2000 mg of Bromelain 3 times a day between meals until the warts/skin tags disappear. Bromelain activates the immune system and provides an enzyme that dissolves warts. 3. Another less traditional, but effective method is to tie a small piece of dental floss around the tag. Pull it tight. Leave it there and as the blood supply is cut off to the tag, it will just fall off. 4. Tea Tree oil consistently dabbed on. 5. Excess weight may be a factor. Reader Feed Back Thankyou for the following messages. If any of our readers would like to contribute to this forum please do so, we'd love to hear from you. Cabbage leaves for breast problems really do work. I had duct ectasia - something like mastitis. Just one day of crushed cabbage leaves and all discomfort went. Brilliant!
