Herbal Help for Humans and their Companions

Best Wishes to all for the Festive Season !

Attitude

The longer you live the more you come to realize the impact of attitude on life - it is more important than education, money, circumstances, failures or successes , more important than appearances, giftedness or skill.

The remarkable thing is that we do have the choice to create the attitude we have for each day.

We cannot change our past. We cannnot change the way people act. We cannot change the inevitable. The one thing we can change is the only thing we have control over and that is our attitude.

Life is 10% what actually happens to us and 90% how we react to it.

Be aware of this over the festive season as you meet up with family and friends that have in the past caused you stress. Maybe its time to let something go, look at it with a new eyes or just simply forget it.

This week we feature:-

Feline - Aged or Traumatised Cats

For a generalized breakdown we recommend our Conditioning Mix (Canine) that we use for cats as well. The mix will bring back into balance a metabolism which has been thrown out by an accidnet or trauma of any type. It will also support the organs involved including the kidneys and liver. It will also assist if your cat is on steroids and any problems which might have come into the picture. It can be obtained from;

To treat the shock of the traumaparticularly if this is what triggered the reversal in health and confidence, I suggest the Trauma Treatment. I recommend a course of 2 doses daily for a couple of weeks to bring the energy systems back into balance.

Canine - Grass Allergy

The history you describe is an indication of an accumulating blood.

toxicity problem, where the body stores toxins it is unable to clear from the blood under skin causing it to become itchy, reactive in an allergic way to substances and conditions which shouldn't bother it and otherwise uncomfortable.

I would therefore recommend the following treatments to cover all bases as resorting to steroids as you know is only stopgap and actually results in compounding the problem by increasing the load on the dogs metabolism, toxins in the system and a side effect of cortisone is a further weakening of the skin in any case.

1.Canine Conditioning Mix to make sure all the systems within the metabolism are working smoothly and in harmony.

2. Skin Allergy Mix which works as a blood cleanser and should reduce the irritation on the skin itself.

This program covers all aspects of the problem and the history to date and will insure against further problems while giving your dog the best shot at getting back to normal.

After one month the following results were noted:-

One month has elapsed with BJ on the two herbal treatments.

We have used about one-third of each bottle.

Results:

Scale and dry skin mostly vanished, most lumps gone on back and tummy, rash gone.

Eating better, fully lively, sleeping more soundly, "nibbling" skin reduced.

We have allowed BJ to roll in grass, and prop on our lawn after mowing.

This seems to stimulate a tiny amount of irritation but nothing like before the treatment.

Assessment - statistically the improvement has to be 99.99% certain due to the herbal remedies. We are very pleased and impressed.

Equine - Accelerated Bone Growth and Shortened Tendons

Often this condition is brought about by too rapid gain of weight of the young horse.

Sometimes there is a genetic predisposition.

It is usually recommended that protein rich food be eliminated for a while so therefore no grain and no lucerne. Try and get hold of grassy or pasture hay. Keep him on the lean side until he has matured.

I would still feed the 1/4 cup of crushed millet and 1/4cup crushed linseed twice daily for nutritional support of the bones, tendons and ligaments as this is only such a small quantity. Remove all other grain from his diet though. Continue with the dolomite, seaweed, rosehips and Brewers Yeast.

As for feeding rates for your other horses I would strongly recommend that you refer to a respected nutrition book either at the library or by purchasing. Such a book will allow you to figure out how much each individual horse will require and will have equations for figuring out calcium to phosphorous ratios, protein requirements etc. Each horse is an individual though and one needs to monitor how the horse is going on the diet ie. Is the horse gaining too much weight (then reduce the feed) or not maintaining weight then up the feed. Nothing is set in stone so you be the judge of how your horse looks. These books usually have a diagram whereby they show the different fat scores which are useful.

As a rule horses really do not need grain unless they are poor doers or are doing substantial work. Older horses in winter may need grain supplementation and don't forget rugging as this will cut down on the amount of feed required by conserving body heat and energy.

An important point though is that all horses require sufficient fibre in their diet to maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract (GIT) so whether that be pasture or hay or a combination of the two depending on amount of pasture present it should be provided. Lucerne hay is quite rich so for the fatties it may be better to provide meadow hay (also known as grassy hay or pasture hay).

Make sure that teeth are attended to on a yearly basis to ensure the horse is getting the most from their feed and that they are grinding the fibre adequately otherwise if long strands of fibre are not chewed properly this may lead to GIT blockages.

Amount of millet and linseed to feed is 1/4 to 1/2 cup of each per horse twice daily depending on their size.

Please ensure you have a topnotch farrier or barefoot trimmer for your yearling. This will be very important to give him the best chance of returning to normal or as normal as can be expected.

Human - Weight Loss

Weight loss requires life style changes & an adherence to a balanced diet & regular Cardiovascular & strength training exercise. Weight loss cannot be achieved by taking herbal medicines alone.(I wish it was that easy!)

The weight loss treatments that are on the web are to be used only in conjunction with diet & exercise. Many factors are involved in weight gain but to speak frankly we only gain weight if the calories we consume out weigh the exercise we undertake.

Weight loss requires attention to diet & enough exercise to promote toning of the muscles an increase in muscle mass & decrease in body fat.

It is best undertaken after consultation with your GP to make sure that all is OK health wise including your liver, thyroid and pancreas .A weight loss support group like Weight watchers can help maintain focus and confidence.

Quick loss or fad diets like low carb high protein diets do not promote long term achievable, balanced or sensible weight loss.

Weight loss should be looked at as a long term program.

Weight gain is deposited on the body as fat & this can only be reduced as you know with cardio vascular exercise with weight training.

Herbal treatments can help to improve circulation, boost lymphatic function, tone the organs of elimination, reduce sugar cravings & balance blood glucose levels but they cannot make you lose weight.

Home Remedies - Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree Oil or cream is a wonderful little remedy to always have on hand for a multiple of uses. It is best not to be ingested orally. It is both antifungal and antibacterial as well as having some antiviral activity . It Is found to be effective against head lice, acne (5% in cream or gel), tinea (10%essential oil in cream base), toenail infections -(needs 100% essential Oil), gingivitis (-2.5% gel ), dandruff (5% in shampoo) , dermatitis and vaginitis (diluted emusLified solution).

Tea tree oil is also effective for treating insect bites, boils and minor wounds. It has also been known to help soothe sunburns, poison ivy, ear infections, and bee stings
